Michigan Medicaid is a government health care program designed to help people across the state access a wide range of medical resources. The Michigan Department of Human Services manages the state’s Medicaid program and determines eligibility.

Medicaid in Michigan is known as Medical Assistance (MA), but the program provides more than simple health care benefits for low-income people. The Michigan Medical Health Care Program is set up to serve people who are 65 years of age and older; blind, pregnant or disabled; children in foster care; and people under 21 in psychiatric hospitals.

Michigan Medicaid also provides long-term care for those in nursing homes, adult foster care and assisted living facilities.
