What Is New Mexico Medicaid?
New Mexico Medicaid offers health coverage for residents of New Mexico who meet certain eligibility requirements. The Medicaid program is a joint effort between the federal government and individual states to ensure that low-income Americans, pregnant women, children, older adults and people with disabilities have access to medical care. In New Mexico, the Medicaid program is now known as Centennial Care.
For Centennial Care recipients, all services are provided by four managed care organizations, which are insurance companies that contract with a network of health care providers and medical facilities to offer medical care, behavioral health services and certain community services. The four organizations responsible for offering services under Centennial Care are Molina Health Care of New Mexico, Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico, United Health Care Community Plan of New Mexico and Presbyterian Health Plan.
Who Is Eligible for Medicaid in New Mexico?
To qualify for Medicaid, an applicant must meet certain requirements related to their residency, income and citizenship.
What is the income limit for Medicaid in New Mexico?
The income limit for New Mexico Medicaid depends on the applicant's household size. As of January 2021, the maximum annual income for a household of one is $19,392 before taxes. The limit increases with each additional person in the household, as displayed below.
- Household of 2: $26,228
- Household of 3: $33,064
- Household of 4: $39,900
- Household of 5: $46,737
- Household of 6: $53,573
- Household of 7: $60,409
- Household of 8: $67,245
For households with more than eight people, the limit increases by $6,836 for each additional person.
What are the eligibility requirements for Centennial Care?
In addition to meeting the income eligibility guidelines, applicants must be residents of New Mexico. Centennial Care is available to U.S. citizens, legal aliens, U.S. nationals and permanent residents who meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Older adult (65+)
- Pregnant
- Blind
- Have a disability (or someone in the household has a disability)
- Responsible for a child no older than 18
How Do I Enroll in Medicaid in New Mexico?
In New Mexico, the Human Services Department is responsible for processing Centennial Care applications. Applicants should have proof of residency, proof of income and proof of citizenship available before starting the application process.
Online
Applications are accepted online, by telephone and in person. The online application is available on the YESNM website, which is a portal designed to connect New Mexico residents with all the benefits for which they are eligible, including Centennial Care, energy assistance, food assistance and cash assistance.
Before filling out the application, each individual must create a username and password for the YESNM site. These credentials can be used to check the status of an application or determine if an applicant is eligible for additional benefits.

In Person
To apply in person, applicants should visit an Income Support Division field office. The New Mexico Human Services Department maintains a list of ISD field offices on its website.
